A pair of Manchester School of Design Prize Medals, in silver, 1846 and 1850, by Benjamin Wyon and William Wyon respectively, both awarded to Henry Clarence Whaite. The first: Fame awards a laurel wreath to a semi-nude classical figure holding a distaff to represent Industry, MANCHESTER SCHOOL OF DESIGN, in exergue, INSTITUTED MDCCCXXXVIII, signed B. WYON SC., rev. TO CLARENCE WHAITE 1846 FIRST PRIZE MEDAL, 51mm, in leather case of issue. The second: bust right, RAFFAELLE SANZIO, rev. Athena, wearing aegis, her helmet set aside behind her, guides her messenger Hermes, with the palette of an artist, towards a student, behind whom are emblems associated with metalwork and textiles, MANCHESTER SCHOOL OF DESIGN, in exergue, PRIMROSE MEDAL FOUNDED 1848, 51mm, in leather case of issue embossed on the lid MANCHESTER SCHOOL OF DESIGN H. C. WHAITE PRIZE MEDAL 1850. Both good extremely fine with stunning tone.
