Brazil, Maria I (1786-99), gold Peca of 6,400 Reis, 1789, R mint mark for Rio, bust with veil right, date and mint letter below, legend and toothed border surrounding, MARIA. I. D. G. PORT. ET. ALG. REGINA., rev. crowned shield of arms within ornate frame, edge engrailed, weight 14.31g (R.543; Gomes 22.04; Fr.85). Some nicks and light surface marks with light tone, dig in front of face otherwise a bold very fine, reverse better, and intriguing to think the coin has been to the bottom of the Bay of Biscay and back with the shipwreck provenance.
