Charles I (1625-49), silver Crown, Tower Mint, London, type 1b with plumes over reverse shield, King on horseback left with sword raised over shoulder, horse caparisoned with plumes on head and rear, sword point breaks inner beaded circle, Latin legend and beaded border surrounding, CAROLVS D; G; MAG; BRI; FRA; ET HIB; REX, initial mark cross calvary both sides (1625-26), rev. quartered shield of arms in frame, crown and plumes with long bands above, no stops in legend, CHRISTO AVSPICE REGNO, weight 29.44g (Brooker 238; F R Cooper dies VII/IX; N.2191; S.2754). Slightly double struck, lightly toned, some striking flaws, otherwise about very fine and one of the rarest varieties in combination with the mint mark, less than five known with this reverse die, extremely rare, with an excellent provenance.
