Charles I (1625-49), silver Crown, Exeter Mint (1643-46), undated, AVSPCE error reading, armoured King on horseback left, crowned holding upright sword, with sash tied in bow at back, Latin legend and beaded borders surrounding, initial mark rose, :CAROLVS: D: G: MAG: BRI: FRA: ET: HI: REX, rev. oval quartered shield of arms with scroll garniture, initial mark rose, letter I omitted in second word of legend, CHRISTO. AVSPCE. REGNO. weight 27.21g (cf. Brooker 1011-2; N.2533; S.3055). Toned, with some light flan flaws and striations, a little weak on upper part of King, otherwise well struck for this usually weak issue with a good horse, otherwise good very fine, scarce, graded by NGC as AU50.
