Charles I (1625-49), silver Halfcrown, Tower Mint under Parliament, group 3a3, armoured King on horseback left, with sword and flowing cloak, beaded borders with abbreviated Latin legend surrounding, initial mark eye both sides (1645), with double striking in reading of legend manifesting extra letters, .CAROLVS D; G; MAG; BRRI; FRA; E. HIB; REX., rev. oval quartered shield of arms, Irish harp with bird head front and six strings, CHRISTO. AVSPICEE. REGNO. weight 14.86g (Brooker 359-60; Bull -; N.2213; S.2778). Toned, double struck giving interesting legend readings and a stunted rear to the horse, charming faces on the King and horse, a pleasing very fine and most unusual, the die combination not recorded by Bull, very rare.
