Charles I (1625-49), silver Halfcrown, undated, Chester Mint, armoured King on horseback left, crowned holding upright sword, tip of sword only breaks inner circle, flowing scarf with two ends behind, Latin legend and beaded borders surrounding, initial mark triple vertical pellets which also appears after FRA, :CAROLVS: D: G: MAG: BRIT: FRAN: ET: HIB REX,rev. crowned quartered shield of arms on frame held by hidden lion, paws visible at four points, Latin legend and beaded borders surrounding, initial mark cinquefoil, CHRISTO. REGNO. AVSPICE. (Lyal Chester dies b/iii; Bull 580; Brooker 1115; N.2627; S.3131).Toned and of usual uneven shape, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as XF40, very rare, the only piece so far graded by the services.
