France, Louis XIV (1643-1715), gold Louis d'Or "aux huit L et aux insignes", 1701-S, Reims mint, LVD. XIII. D G FR. ET. NAV. REX., old laureate bust right with short hair, date below, rev. CHRS REGN VINC IMP, four cruciform crowned double L's over crossed insignia, mint mark S at centre (Gad. 253; Fr. 436). Lightly toned with original mint lustre, obverse and reverse showings signs of overstriking from an earlier type, in NGC holder MS62 and the only graded specimen.
