George II (1727-60), gold Two Guineas, 1740, 40 struck over 39, laureate head left, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, GEORGIVS. II. DEI. GRATIA. rev. crowned quartered shield of arms, incorporating the Arms of Hanover, date either side of crown, M.B.F. ET. HIB. REX. F.D. B. ET. L. D. S.R.I.A.T. ET. E. edge curved graining (Schneider 577 dies obv. 8/ rev. 8; Bull EGC 575; MCE 294; S.3668). Slabbed by NGC who claim the coin has been cleaned, however with its pleasant red natural tone and light haymarking we struggle to see how this coin is cleansed, there is a brighter element to the relief of the bust and this contrast may have made NGC conclude what they have on the label, otherwise this coin is an English good very fine to almost extremely fine.
