George III (1760-1820), gold Guinea, 1761, first laureate head right, two leaves at top of wreath, legend surrounding, GEORGIVS. III. DEI. GRATIA., large gap from neck to end of legend, toothed border around rim both sides, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms, date either side of crown, legend M.B.F.ET.H. REX. F.D.B. ET.L.D.S.R.I.A.T ET.E. (cf.Schneider 606; Farey 1020; Bull EGC 671 R3; MCE 367; Traveller 2108 this coin; S.3725). Toned with plenty of red colour and underlying brilliance, just a touch of wear to high points, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as AU55 with special provenance label, very rare as the first issue of the reign.
