Henry VIII (1509-47), gold Halfcrown of the Double Rose, third coinage (1544-47), Tower Mint, issued at Thirty Pence in 20 carat gold, crowned double rose, Roman style H to left and R to right for Henry Rex, transposed legends, beaded circle and Latin legend surrounding, initial mark pellet in annulet both sides, Roman lettering with saltire stops both sides, RVTILANSxx ROSAxx SINExx SPINA, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms, H to left and R to right, HENRIC'x 8x D'x G'x AGL'x FRxZx HIB'x REX, the upper case H in legend of unusual style with annulet in centre of bar, weight 1.49g (cf.Schneider 636-9 and 651-2; North 1837; S.2311). Toned, some weak areas in legend, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as MS61, we have never seen one of these with this combination of dies and unusual letter H, perhaps the very last Regal issue before the posthumous, extremely rare.
