Henry VIII (1509-47), Posthumous Issue under Edward VI (1547-49), gold Halfcrown of the Double Rose, Southwark Mint, issued at Thirty Pence in 20 carat gold, error spelling for RVTILANS in legend, crowned double rose, h to left and R to right for Henry Rex, beaded circle and Latin legend surrounding, initial mark E on reverse only, legend transposed with usual reverse legend, Roman lettering with lozenge stops both sides, E RVIELANS: ROSA. SINE. SP', note spelling error, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms, h to left and R to right, saltire stops, HENRIC. 8. D' G'. AG'. IR'. Z HI'. REX, weight 1.50g (Schneider -; N.1870; S.2400). Toned with some light wear and surface marks, interesting to note the spelling error, a very rare issue anyway and not present in the Schneider Collection and the only example graded by NGC as AU53.
