Ireland, Hiberno-Norse coinage, silver Penny, phase I (c.997-1020), Watchet mint signature, moneyer signature Hunewine, draped bust left, pellet behind neck, X ÆDELRÆD RX AGLO, the initial cross and X from the same punch and both in saltire, rev. voided long cross with tri-crescent ends, + HVN EPINE M.OP ECED, the ne ligated, weight 1.37g (Blackburn NC 1975, p.196; BNJ XLIV (1974), p.21; Studies in Northern Coinage of the Eleventh Century, p. 60 and pl. XI, 318; DF 12; S.6107). Toned with a few pecks on reverse, flan a little undulating, otherwise well preserved very fine and very rare.
