Offa, King of Mercia (757-796), silver Penny, light coinage (c.780-792), East Anglia, moneyer Withred, diademed and draped bust right extending to bottom of coin, beaded circles and legend in runic letters surrounding, +OFFA:.+REX+, rev. pellet at centre of short cross pommée over saltire cross pommée within beaded circle, legend with fleur divisions in line with inner cross and beaded outer circle surrounding, +:.P IH TR E:.d, weight 1.06g (cf.Chick 179a; Blunt -; SCBI 21:953 Yorkshire; cf.N.310; S.906). Toned with some light porosity, similar to the one coin cited in Chick but not quite the same, not recorded properly in North, extremely rare issue.
