Richard II (1377-99), gold Quarter-Noble, London Mint, mule of type 1b obverse with 3a reverse, quartered shield, double linear tressure of eight arcs surrounding, trefoils on cusps, Latin legend and beaded borders surrounding, initial mark cross pattée, + RICARD'x DEIxx GRAxx REXxx AnGx, rev. pellet at centre of ornate cross with lis terminals, lions over trefoils in angles, double linear tressure of eight arcs surrounding, Latin legend and beaded borders surrounding, + EXALTABITVRxx Inxx GLORIA, weight 1.48g (Schneider 139/166; Webb-Ware type 1b/3a; N.1318/1319; S.1673/1675). Toned, struck from a rusted pair of dies, hairline crack at inner circle at left portion of obverse and corresponding part of reverse, perhaps slightly clipped at King's name, otherwise good fine to almost very fine and a very rare muling of types for the Quarter Noble.
