Scotland, Alexander II (1214-49), in the name of William I posthumous issue, Phase C, silver Penny, Roxburgh mint, moneyer Peris and Adam in combination, small compact bust left holding sceptre, reads in retrograde +WILLELMVS REX, rev. voided short cross with stars in angles, PERIS ADAM ON R surrounds, weight 1.32g (Burns as William the Lion 5f, fig. 66c; SCBI Scottish coins 35:82; cf.S. 5034). Lightly toned grey patina, obverse double struck otherwise very fine for a notoriously weakly struck issue, very rare with bust left and retrograde legend.
