Scotland, Charles I (1625-49), silver Sixty Shillings or Three Pounds, third coinage (1637-42) struck in the mill and screw press, designed by Nicholas Briot, armoured King on horseback left, with flowing sash and upright sword, pebbly ground below with plain exergue, Latin legend with lozenge stops and beaded borders surrounding both sides, initial mark thistle with .B. above, CAROLVS. D:G. MAGN. BRITANN. FRANC. ET. HIBERN. REX. rev. crowned quartered shield of arms, QVÆ. DEVS. CONIVNXIT. NEMO. SEPARET., terminal mark thistle and .B., weight 29.97g (Burns 5 fig.1005; S.5552). Toned, with some light flan adjustment marks on rim both sides, a few tiny pin-prick sized marks both sides, otherwise practically extremely fine and rare, with a fantastic provenance trail.
