Scotland, David II (1329-71), silver Half-Groat, second coinage (1357-67), earliest issue type A, Edinburgh Mint, early "graceless" legend, crowned smaller youthful head left, sceptre head with handle before, within tressure of six arcs, beaded circles and legend surrounding, initial mark cross patée, +DAVIDx DEIx REXx SCOTORum, the penultimate letter is an inverted gothic n, rev. long cross patée, five pointed pierced mullet in each angle, twin concentric legend and beaded circles surrounding, +DnS PROT ECTOR mEVS, weight 2.19g (Burns 1, fig.263; S.5105). Toned, one small metal flaw in obverse legend, with a lovely portrait, more or less fully struck, good very fine and the rare earlier issue which missed out the word GRA rendering it a "Graceless" issue.
