Scotland, David II (1329-71), silver Half-Groat, second coinage (1357-67), reads DAVIn for DAVID in error, larger young head type B, Edinburgh Mint, crowned older head left, sceptre head with handle before, base of bust breaks tressure of six arcs, beaded circles and legend surrounding, initial mark cross pattée, +DAVInx DEIx GRAx REXx SCOTORV, rev. long cross pattée, five pointed pierced mullet in each angle, twin concentric legend and beaded circles surrounding, reads PROSECTOR in error, +DnS PROS ECTOR mEVS in outer circle, VILL A ED InBV RGh in inner circle (cf.SCBI 35:393-397; Burns -9, fig.269; S.5106). Toned, with clear legends and interesting engraving errors, Burns only records the reverse and we are aware of only two other coins of this reading, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as AU58, extremely rare.
