Scotland, James III (1460-88), silver Groat, Edinburgh Mint, main issue (1484-88), variety with legend reading DIE instead of DEI, crowned bust facing half left with bushy hair, cross on crown breaks inner beaded circle with legend surrounding, annulet on inner circle at 3 o'clock, initial mark cross fleury with double annulet stops, +IACOBVS: DIE: GRACIA: REX: COTRV, rev. long cross pattee, tri-pellets with central annulet in two opposing inner angles, crown in other two opposing angles, beaded circles and twin concentric legends surrounding, outer legend initial mark cross fleury, +DnS:P RO:TEC TORmE ETORV, inner legend, +VIL LA Ex DIn BRVG, weight 2.76g (cf.Burns 39a/35 fig.638/9; S.5289). Toned, an unusual mule of two Burns numbers, very fine though facial features flat, rare.
