Scotland, James IV (1488-1513), gold Unicorn of Eighteen Shillings, type II, Unicorn facing left, shield of Scottish arms in front, crown of five lis around neck of unicorn, ring without chain below, horn of unicorn breaks inner beaded circle, legend and outer beaded circle surrounding with fleur de lis stops, initial mark cross pattee, +IACOBVS+ DEI+ GRA+ REX+ SCOTORVM, rev. sun of twelve rays over cross fleury, beaded circles and legend surrounding, +EXVRGAT+ DEVS+ DISSIPEnT+ IIMICI EI, weight 3.85g (Burns type IV, 7a fig.687; S.5317). With a copper red hue, a little uneven in shape, some small short hairline scratches on one quarter of reverse, larger dig below, otherwise a pleasing very fine and rare, an unusual variety without the proper chain below the unicorn and the Inimici word of reverse rendered with double I at start.
