Scotland, James V (1513-42), gold Crown of Twenty Scottish Shillings, second coinage (1526-39), type III, crowned shield of scottish arms with slight point to bottom and open crown with hatched interior, seven pellet corded band to crown, St Andrew's cross saltire either side, beaded circles and legend surrounding both sides, tri-pellet stops, initial mark star, IACOBVS.: 5.: DEI.: GRA.: REX.: SCOTORVM:., rev. quatrefoil at centre of cross with lis ends, five pellets below each lis, thistles in angles, initial mark crown, :.CRVCIS :. ARMA :. SEQVAMVR, (SCBI 58:22; SCBI 35:897; SCBI 71;341 Stewartby; Burns 8, fig.745; S.5370). Toned, fully round with a well centred strike, has been graded and slabbed by NGC as AU55, more unusual variety with the pellets under the lis cross ends and the corded crown band with hatched interior, very rare.
