T. Didius (113/112 B.C.), Silver Denarius. Mint of Rome. Helmeted head of Roma facing right, ROMA monogram behind, mark of value below, rev. T DEIDI (in exergue), gladiatorial scene: two gladiators engaging in battle, one armed with a round shield and a sword and brandishing a whip, the other armed with an oval shield, a sword and a stave, falling backwards having been struck, 3.90g., 6h (Crawford 294/1; Sydenham 550; RBW 1134). Some light old marks on obverse, beautiful old cabinet tone, nearly extremely fine, a very attractive example of this popular issue.
