Valentinian II (A.D. 375-392), Gold Solidus. Mint of Mediolanum, struck A.D. 378-83. D N VALENTINI-ANVS P F AVG, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust facing right, rev. VICTOR-IA AVGG, two emperors, nimbate, enthroned facing, holding a globe between them, Victory with spread wings above and behind them, a palm-branch between them below, COM in exergue, 4.51g., 7h (RIC 5e; Depeyrot 1/2; C 37). Well-struck and centred on a broad flan, lustrous and good extremely fine, a superb example, superior to those usually encountered.
