Victoria (1837-1901), gold Sovereign, 1880, second 8 over 7 in date, first young filleted head left of the third style, WW buried in truncation for engraver William Wyon, date below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, rev. St George and dragon right, long tail to horse, one extra spur of hair in upper left curve, date in exergue, small B P initials to upper right, only the P visible, weight 7.97g (Bentley 315; Marsh 91A; S.3856A). Toned unevenly with handling and bagmarks, one large scratch and partial lamination on neck, otherwise a bold fine.
