Victoria (1837-1901), gold Half-Sovereign, 1887 S, Sydney Mint, Australia, Golden Jubilee style bust facing left, designed by J Edgar Boehm, small crown and veil on head, pearl earring with pearl necklace, J.E.B. initials very spread and raised on truncation with hooked J, arranged in a slight arc with the B intruding the field, other letters at juncture of truncation and field, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, rev. struck en medaille, crowned quartered high shield of arms, date below either side of bottom of frame, mint mark letter S directly below frame at border teeth, legend commences lower left with toothed border surrounding, BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF: edge milled, weight 4.00g (DISH S502 R4; Marsh 485A R4; S.3871). Toned very fine, and one of the only coins that was not present in the recent David Iverson Collection of Half-Sovereigns we sold, extremely rare.
