Victoria (1837-1901), Pattern Sixpence, 1887, struck in silver, produced by Joseph Rochelle Thomas with Spink & Son, ornate and detailed crowned and veiled bust of Queen Victoria three quarters left, S&S incuse on truncation, the ampersand to the right of the leading edge of the veil, legend in English commences at bottom within twin linear circles surrounding, +VICTORIA. BY. THE. GRACE. OF. GOD. QUEEN. OF. GREAT. BRITAIN. EMP: OF. INDIA, cross pommée initial cross, beaded border and raised rim both sides, rev. inverted die axis, Royal Arms quartered within Order of the Garter with crowned helm above, crowned lion supporter facing inwards to left, unicorn facing inwards to right both standing on leaf frame, SIX PENCE above, date in Roman numerals below, thistle, rose and shamrock emblems below, edge milled, weight 2.83g (cf.ESC 1783 R2; Bull 3315). Toned with some surface marks, wear to high points, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as PF53, extremely rare.
