Victoria (1837-1901), gold Sovereign, 1894, unusual weakly struck 4 in date, crowned, veiled bust left, T.B. initials below truncation for engraver Thomas Brock, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA· DEI GRA BRITT REGINA·FID·DEF IND IMP·, rev. St. George and Dragon right, date in exergue, B.P. to upper right of exergue, edge milled, 7.96g (Bentley 338; Marsh 146; MCE 554; S.3874). Toned with some surface marks and worn highpoints, the 4 in the date is weakly struck giving a contrasting appearance, possibly due to a partial blockage on the die, otherwise very fine and unusual.
