William III (1694-1702), silver Shilling, 1696, error MAB for MAG on reverse, first laureate and draped bust right, legend and toothed border surrounding, GVLIELMVS. III.DEI.GRA., rev. crowned cruciform shields, Lion of Nassau at centre, date either side of top crown,.MAB. BR.FRA. ET.HIB. REX. weight 5.76g (Bull 1106 R5; ESC 1087B; S.3497). Toned darkly due to saltwater exposure, with some adjustment marks and weak areas, with a clear error and the only second example the cataloguer has ever seen in nearly 30 years, a bold fine with a shipwreck provenance, extremely rare, perhaps rarer than indicated in Bull, an intriguing error in the legend.
