William IV (1830-37), gold Sovereign, 1836, N of ANNO struck on shield, second bare head right, nose points to second I in legend with flat top ear, W.W. incuse on truncation, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, GULIELMUS IIII D: G: BRITANNIAR: REX F: D:, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms in frame, date ANNO 1836 below, N struck at angle on shield, edge milled, 7.98g (Bentley 31; Marsh 20A R4; M.C.E.493; Bull EGC 1030 R4; S.3829B). Nicks and bagmarks with wear to the highpoints, several large scratches on obverse, fields have a bright appearance indicating cleaning but some patches of residual lustre remain, reverse better, overall about very fine and extremely rare.
