Edward the Confessor (1042-66),silver Penny, mule of pointed helmet type obverse (1053-56) and succeeding eagles reverse (1056-59), Shaftesbury Mint, Moneyer Wulfric, King in profile right draped wearing helmet, holding cross headed sceptre, bust to edge of coin, legend in commences upper right, +EDP ER RE:.,rev.short voided cross, eagle or raven in each angle, linear circles and Latin legend surrounding, +PVLFRIC ON SCEAF,weight 1.32g (SCBI -; BMC type VII/VIII - 1169 plate IV; N.825/827; S.1179/1181).Toned, with a nice portrait, a touch of weakness to strike in one small portion both sides, a little red wax evident on obverse, otherwise good very fine and of the highest rarity, with only one other example known in the British Museum Collection.
